Wilmington’s Unemployment Rate Falls to 3.0% To End 2023

Wilmington’s unemployment rate fell to 3.0% to end 2023, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

  • M-O-M: Wilmington’s unemployment rate fell to 3.0% in December, down from 3.2% in November and the lowest level since September 2023.
  • Y-O-Y: Wilmington’s unemployment rate is exactly where it was one year ago.

Payroll Rises. Wilmington created 800 jobs in January as total employees on nonfarm payrolls increased to 143,800 in January, up from 143,000 in December and the highest level since 2023.

North Carolina. The state’s unemployment rate held at 3.5% for the second straight month and is below the 3.8% rate one year ago.
