1 minute read

In 1962, Greenfield Amphitheater was dedicated with an urgent appeal for the people of Wilmington and Southeastern North Carolina to help “create an age of culture in the life of our country.” Paul Green, noted playwright, author and producer of The Lost Colony, called for “an age of art” in the United States during his dedication speech. An estimated 1,200 people were on hand for the dedication, which included performances by a community chorus and a 150-piece band.
