The expansion of remote working has helped a new type of travel grow exponentially. It is not a work trip nor is it a leisure trip. It’s actually both. (Bloomberg)

“Working outside the office for two or three weeks from a scenic destination on the water or in the mountains might be the post-pandemic normal for some white-collar professionals. It’s the kind of extended visit or vacation that’s traditionally been difficult to manage for office workers when they have only a limited number of paid days off.”

This seems like the perfect goldilocks solution for America’s economy. There was a Cadillac commercial that came out in 2014 with actor Neal McDonough. It was lauded by capitalists because it highlighted what set us apart from other countries. It celebrated that America, unlike Europe, encourages people to work as much as necessary to spur innovation. McDonough ends the ad by saying, “As for all the stuff, that’s the upside of only taking two weeks off in Augusta.”

Work-life balance proponents argued this ad is everything that is wrong with American culture. We should be encouraging people to stop and smell and the roses and not work until they die. I think this current Bloomberg piece is the perfect goldilocks solution. It allows people to go on longer vacations because they always have access to the office. So hopefully they won’t be working their whole vacation, but if they need to do it that option is available. Everyone should be happy with this latest innovation.
