The number of job openings increased to a series high on the last business day of July, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today…(BLS)
- The number of job openings increased by 749,000 to a series high of 10.9 million and a rate of 6.9%.
- Job openings increased in health care and social assistance (+294,000); finance and insurance (+116,000); and accommodation and food services (+115,000).
HIRES saw little change with the number and rate at 6.7 million and 4.5%, respectively…
- Hires decreased in retail trade (-277,000), durable goods manufacturing (-41,000), and educational
services (-23,000).
- Hires increased in state and local government education (+33,000) and in federal government (+21,000).
NOTE: Total separations (5.8M) also little change which includes quits (4.0M), layoffs (1.5M), and other separations (350k)
