In 1990, New Hanover County bought 125 acres in Ogden to build the largest park in New Hanover County which would later become Smith Creek Park. The purchase was made with part of a $5 million bond that county voters approved the prior year. The County paid $6,500 an acre for a total of $812,500 from Conrad Hinson.
